Habe auf einem imac hier mit 10.5.6 das Problem, dass mds ewig herumindiziert hat (2 Tage!!!!) und nun einen virtuellen Speicher von 12 GIG!!!! verbraucht, auch der physikalische Speicher geht schon mal auf 3,5GIG!!!! Dadurch sind die Ressourcen aber komplett am Ende!

Habe schon Spotlight Index komplett neu angelegt (via terminal und Privatspäre-einstellungen), bringt aber nix, ausser dass er wieder 2 Tage indiziert!

Das komische ist, dass selbst nach dem Neustart der VM-Anteil immer noch bei 12 GIG liegt, wird das nicht jedes mal beim neustart gelöscht???

Der Begriff "Virtueller Speicher" bezieht sich nur auf den Adressraum und hat mit echtem Speicherverbrauch nichts zu tun. Ich vermute, Du hast das mit Auslagerungsspeicher ("Swap") verwechselt.

3 GB physikalischer Speicherverbrauch ist allerdings schon heftig. Kann es sein, dass auf der Platte irgendwo Grafikdateien liegen, die tatsächlich 3 GB groß sind? Das könnte auch eine fehlerhafte Grafikdatei sein, die intern eine irrwitzig hohe Anzahl an Pixeln deklariert hat. Eventuell hilft es, ins Systemprotokoll zu schauen, ob mds da einen Fehler beim Lesen einer bestimmten Datei aufgezeichnet hat.

So soll es sein. Es wäre ja unsinnig, wenn das Betriebssystem den vorhandenen Speicher brachliegen lassen würde. Die Verzögerungen kommen daher, dass das System 656 MB Auslagerungsspeicher verwendet.

Es gibt wahrscheinlich auch im Systemprotokoll Einträge von mds. Dies wäre hilfreicher, da dort in vielen Fällen die Namen der problematischen Dateien auftauchen. Wenn das Indexieren so lange dauert, könnten diese Meldungen auch bereits mehrere Tage zurückliegen.

Das Absturzprotokoll zeigt, dass Spotlight Probleme hat, Daten mehrerer Platten zu einem Index zusammenzufassen. Da hat eine interne Datenstruktur von Spotlight fehlerhafte Einträge, was durchaus einen viel zu hohen Speicherverbrauch auslösen könnte.

Gibt es "fremde" Datenträger (z.B. File Server, CD-ROMs oder NTFS-Partitionen von Windows), auf denen kein Schreibzugriff besteht? In diesem Fall wäre es zum Test interessant, ob der Fehler verschwindet, wenn man diese Datenträger auswirft.

das gleiche Problem hatte ich auch schon mal. Wie Marcel Bresink schont angedeutet hat, bei mir lag es damals an einer eingehängten NTFS- Partition. Innerhalb der Spotlight- Einstellungen einfach eine Ausnahme hinzufügen.
