jetzt probier ich mein glück noch hier:

seit einer woche - schlimmes gewitter in der nacht - hat sich ein
port meines netgear MR314 routers verabschiedet - anscheinend ist
aber auch der an diesem port hängende iMac G4 in mitleidenschaft
gezogen worden. folgendes problem habe ich derzeit:

wenn ich den iMac an den router (neuer linksys WRT54GC) stöpsle,
wechselt die anzeige im netzwerkstatus im 2-3 sec rythmus zwischen
rot und grün. (einstellungen bei ethernet auf auto) lediglich wenn
ich manuell und 10baseT/UTP auswähle, dann leichtet das grüne
lämpchen, aber die geschwindigkeit für internet ist unbefriedigend)

jetzt kommts: stecke ich das netzwerkkabel direkt ins kabelmodem,
funktioniert die verbindung ohne probleme.

vielleicht tragen die syslog einträge zur klärung des problem bei:
