Tactile Pro Info...

Dear Mr. ...
It is with sincere regret that I send this email to you.
We have been in negotiations with the Alps key switch supplier. They have
discontinued the key switches we need for Tactile Pro keyboards. After
spending considerable time and money on developing prototypes and
packaging we are extremely disappointed to have to abandon all projects
involving this key switch currently in development including the German
Tactile Pro.

It is possible to use a US Tactile Pro to type German. You simply need to
change the active layout to German. Since your Mac is German already, you
don't really have to do anything to get it to work.
For your reference, here is the Apple support page anyway:

However, there are a few differences between the US
Tactile Pro and the standard German layout...

1. The Return key is a different shape and one of the
keys next to it is one row higher. See attached PDF for reference.

2. The key immediately to the right of the Left Shift key is missing
from the US layout. There is likely some Option-key combination that will
allow you to type it though.

Also, we are currently making our first run of USB 2.0 Keyboards with a
German layout. It has dome key switches instead of the beloved Alps key
switches so although it does not have the "tactile" feel, it is better
than the standard "membrane" keyboard. The first samples are on the way to
our office as I send this email. We hope to be shipping from our warehouse
in Amsterdam by February.
Sorry for the sad news!
Best Regards,
Barbara

Hab ihnen geantwortet:

Dear Ms. Perriman,

anyway thanks for your response after such al long time.
It sounds also not so nice for me and many other people here in
Germany who like to combine there special Apple feeling and quality
demands with the Tactile Pro keyboard.

Would you please be so kind and send me a signal if there would be a
real chance to use your “best keyboard ever made” for German typing
almost normaly, the Power key will run with the current Macs and last
but not least the wireless one would be the hit!

I am sure you will find many happy customers in Germany!

Still hopefull and with best regards,
Peter
