Canon USA Announces Cinema EOS C300 and EOS C300 PL Cameras

Two identical cameras, one with EF mount, one with PL mount; Super-35 4K CMOS sensor,
records 1080p30 to Compact Flash cards using existing Canon XF 50Mbps 4:2:2 MPEG2 codec.

At Paramount Studios in Hollywood today, Canon USA is announcing two forthcoming digital cinema cameras, the EOS C300 and the EOS C300 PL, as part of their new Professional HD Cinema System, which is being branded as Cinema EOS. The two cameras are identical to each other in every way, with the sole exception of the lens mount. The C300 has an EF mount supporting Canon’s own extensive line of still photography lenses, while the C300 PL has the popular Arri “Positive Lock” PL mount, making it compatible with a broad range of third-party PL-mount lenses as well as Canon’s own line of PL-mount cinema prime and zoom lenses.

In this article we’ll dive deeper into the cameras and the rest of the Cinema EOS system, but first, here are the main features of the C300 / C300 PL:

Single 8.3 megapixel 2160×3840 Super-35 CMOS sensor (4K resolution) with Digic DV III processor
Canon XF codec (50Mbps 4:2:2 1080p30 MPEG2 MXF) records to two Compact Flash card slots
Canon Log gamma, SDI, compact body, Custom Presets and menus similar to Canon XF series
Exposure and focus control are completely manual — there is no AE or AF on either camera
Sold as a system, incl. LCD monitor / XLR audio unit, side grip, top handle, batt. & charger
Availability: Jan. 2012; Price: appx. $16,000 USD (for C300)

The rest of the Cinema EOS system includes Canon’s own high-end cinema zoom lenses… first their two zooms, the PL-mount versions of which were previously announced and exhibited earlier this year back in April at NAB2010. All resolve to 4K:

Canon Zoom Lens CN-E14.5-60mm T2.6 L SP (wide zoom, PL version)

And three yet-to-be-released primes, all resolve to 4K but all are EF-mount only:

Canon Prime Lens CTZ-029 (24mm)
Canon Prime Lens CTZ-030 (50mm)
Canon Prime Lens CTZ-031 (85mm)

Note: As far as this article is concerned, in order to greatly simplify things, the two Canon cameras will be referred to singularly as the C300 model. Since the only difference between the C300 and the C300 PL is the lens mount, and everything else within both cameras being completely identical, I will assume that the reader understands that the context of what follows below applies equally to both models… with the exception of certain instances which mention PL lenses or EF lenses in particular. It should be fairly easy to follow along, considering that the only physical difference between the two cameras is the EF lens mount vs. the PL lens mount.

Vielleicht sehen wir selbige ja schon im Bild aus deinem ersten Link? Vielleicht mutiert die 5er Reihe zu einer mehr oder weniger reinrassigen Video Kamera. Hoffentlich ist die Idee absurd genug, das es nicht passiert.

Wie sieht das denn presilich aus? Da wurde mit keinem Wort darüber gesprochen. Als 5D III Besitzer bin ich ja an einer Kamera interessiert die die bisher durch Aufrüstung mit div. Accessoirs zu einer sehr professionellen Filmkamera wurde. Bleibt denn die Kamera mit EF Mount für einen ambitionierten (gelegenheits-)Filmer erschwinglich oder bewegen wir uns dann in Preishöhen die nur zum träumen bleiben?

Was hat denn die Red Scarlet Deiner Ansicht nach so mehr drauf?

Die C300 steht tritt nicht gegen die Scarlet an sondern gegen Epic und Alexa?

Also ich habe von Filmkameras und Filmaufnahmen keine Ahnung, aber was ich sehr interessant fand, war eine Aussage in diesem Interview mit Thorpe (Senior Director, Professional Engineering and Solutions, Imaging Technologies and Communications Group, Canon U.S.A. – Was für ein Titel!) @@

Möglicherweise hat das auch mal Auswirkungen auf künftige SLR-Sensoren.
